The power of representation provides the material to imagine oneself in positions beyond your current capabilities. The role of the artist is to show these possibilities and uncover these alternatives of being. Artists collectively show the different facets of human experience in their truth.
My identity as a Black person rests in a crux, with one foot in inescapable history and the other in the drive of my contemporary environment. The goal of my work is to wrestle with this dual nature to show my truth of the Black experience and represent its complexity.
